Subject: Batteries for Kenwood TH-78A
To: ham-equip@ucsd.edu
I finally decided on buying a Kenwood TH-78A and am now considering which
batteries to get with it. There are actually a couple mail order places
which will ship the radio with a battery besides the standard PB-13. This
is how the three main Kenwood batteries compare:
PB-13 Standard 7.2V 700A 2.5W on High Power (approx. 4.5 hrs.)
PB-17 High-Power 12.0V 700A 5.0W on High Power (approx. 3.0 hrs.)
PB-18 Long-Life 7.2V 1100A 2.5W on High Power (approx. 7.0 hrs.)
There is also the BT-8 battery case which takes 6 AA batteries; what kind of
output (in watts) does this provide for and how long will it last?
Additionaly, how about batteries that fit the Kenwood but are made by other
manufacturers? I'm specifically looking for a "long-life, high-power"
battery. Any suggestions/recommendations out there? Thanks very much.

You know, I'd even be happy just being able to "lift" a ht with a 700 Ah
battery with one hand!! ;)

I know this question has been explored ad nauseum, but
at those times, I wasn't paying close attention. I have
scanned back postings and look through the oak.oakland.edu
FTP site but have found a limited offering of opinions.
If someone collected a file of opinions or has some to mail
my way, I would be grateful.
thanks

Jeff, AC4HF:
Thanks for the info. I had asked about the MFJ Hi Q Loop
in rec.radio.amateur.antenna so don't know if this is
in response to my question.
I am planning a trip to St. Thomas and possibly will use
this antenna.
I have recently constructed the loop in May QST but with
manual tuning, it is not that convenient. But it does
work.
Does the MFJ have quality construction in your opinion?
Thanks,

Hi,
I'm working with a Kenwood 450SAT and a PK232 and trying to send
stuff with it, CW, Baudot etc etc.. I've made the cable from the PK232
to the 450 using the info from the 450 manual but I'm not sure of the
pinouts. Any body hooked this combo up before?
What pin/color wire arrangement did you use?
The pk232 is receiving data ok and displaying but when I transmit it
will key the transmitter but I'm not sure if any data is being sent.
ie I can't hear anything but a carrier on a seperate receiver.
Any help would be appreciated. Thanks!!

I guess I should be a little more detailed in what I am looking for.
Specifically, I want the "bullet" type of microphones by Astatic, Shure,
etc. To be used for playing amplified harmonica. I am told that these
type of microphones were popular desk microphones for ham radio use for
quite awhile.
Sorry about the double post- I'm kind of new at this internet thing
Thanks again
John
